Procedures : Becoming a rapier marshal
To become a warranted rapier marshal in Atlantia, you must follow the following process.
- Find a Sponsiring Marshal.
- Print out the rules
- Print the Rapier Marshal In Training MIT form.
- Register with the Earl Marshal.
- Be a rapier marshal in training at events.
- You must take two classes. "Rapier Marshal 101", and "Field Marshal 201".
You are required to have a warranted rapier marshal that you can work with to train you in becoming a rapier marshal. This person should be someone that is willing to answer questions, show you how to test equipment, and guide you through the marshal training process.
As a marshal, it is important to always have a physical copy of all of the rules relavant to rapier combat in Atlantia. Be sure to print out the Society Rules, the Kingdom Rules, and the Society Marshals' Handbook. While it is every fighters duty to know and understand these rules, it is always best to have a copy of them on hand in case you need to solve a dispute over the rules.
Keep this form with you at all times during your marshal training. You need to have it signed by event marshals that you work with, in addition to your sponsoring marshal.
The Earl Marshal requires that all those wishing to become a warranted marshal register such that they can be accurately tracked during their training.
You must assist the "Rapier Marshal in Charge" in marshaling rapier combat in at least four different events. You are required to train during at least two events outside your local group. You are required to train during at least one event outside your region. You are required to train during at least one event that has rapier melee. These requirements are such that you have exposure to how rules are enforced across the kingdom.
Be sure to contact the Rapier Marshal in Charge of each event you wish to train at ahead of time, letting them know you would like to train with them.
These classes are taught regularly at University of Atlantia, as well as major events around the kingdom. Look for announcements on the kingdom mailing list for when these classes will be held. You are not required to take the classes prior to the start of your training, but it helps. You are required to take them prior to completing the training.
Once all of the preceeding steps have been completed, then mail a legible photocopy of the following documents to your regional rapier marshal. DO NOT send your original copy, as it might get lost and then you would have to start over again.
- Your completed paperwork
- Both sides of your membership card
- Both sides of your authorization card
Upon receiving your documents, your regional rapier marshal will review your documents. You will be notified upon completion of the review as to your status as a warranted rapier marshal.
