The second (and longer) posting
As Ymir fades slowly into the sunset, it is my hope that everyone carried away fond memories of this event. I do not yet have the final number but am led to believe we had at least 60 fencers on the list - absolutely amazing! Thanks to all those who pitched in to assist Mistress Ceridwen... and to the pleasant weather. The enjoyment was unparalleled!
I noticed many witnesses to the Cut & Thrust demo at Ymir. It was yet another example of fine swordsmanship brought to you by THL Giacomo and Master Alan. Thanks to you both.
If anyone is interested in practicing C&T, contact THL Vyvyan (me). I will send the request to the Society Sidesword Marshal and tell him of our plans. We must receive official permission to perform this style. Any group that would like to host an event containing C&T will find the rules on the ATC website (http://atc.atlantia.org) or on this site. Read the rules, follow the safety guidelines, and use common sense. Monthly reports should be sent to me and should include: the names of those involved in your practice, your thoughts/observations, armor you think is necessary, and (especially) any injuries. If there is enough interest the side sword, I would like to see a bigger demo at Academy. Please be prepared to demonstrate what you learn at practice… and to show off the bruises!
I would also like to give a ripping loud hoot to all those who fought - and to those who supported our fighters - in the Free Scholar Charity Tourney at Ymir on Saturday evening. A sizeable donation was raised for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Thanks to all who gave of their time and finances. It seemed - from my spectator point of view - that all went as planned. Well done Rosalind! I saw some outstanding talent on the field (under the pavilion) that night and was quite impressed. Atlantia is fortunate to have so many amazing fencers!
Everyone prepare yourselves for a glorious season of dueling! If you get the chance, you might also consider traveling to Meridies or up to the East Kingdom to test your skill against the rapier fighters from other kingdoms.
