Rules Updates
Greetings onto the glorious Kingdom of Atlantia, from the Deputy Earl Marshal for Rapier Combat, Kynnyth Pyke:
This month, were introducing Cut & Thrust as an authorized weapons form in Atlantia. Many people worked very hard on getting this form, and I would like to offer my thanks for their work, in particular Baron Alejandro and Lord Connor Sinclair.
In addition to the modifications to Kingdom Policy reflected below, please review the Society rules at the link in Policy.
3.11.2 Rapier Combat Weapons and Armor StandardsAtlantia will follow Corporate Rules for Rapier in the Society for Creative Anachronism, Incorporated (found at the Society Marshals Web Site at http://www.sca.org/officers/marshal/combat/rapier/index.html), including cut and thrust rapier, with the following exceptions: 3.11.2.2For cut and thrust rapier combat, the following additional areas must be covered with rigid protection:
Note: Fighters who choose to participate in Cut & Thrust combat acknowledge that they will be struck with a harder blow than they would normally receive in heavy or light rapier combat, and they should act with the interest of safety of their opponent in mind. 3.11.3.1.5A valid percussive cut is any properly executed chop-like cut striking the opponent with positive force. 3.11.3.2.3A Valid Blow (thrust or cut) to an arm or leg will cause the loss of the use of that limb. For cut and thrust bouts, a percussive cut to the leg or foot will result in the loss of the bout. |
In addition to these modifications, there is one slight correction from the February Acorn, which stated rule 3.11.3.6.5 would be eliminated. This is a non-existent rule. Instead we are eliminating the following rule:
3.11.4.6.5 Deliberately trapping the blade in any fashion. |
Please note that the functionality of this rule has been covered under the new 3.11.3.2.5 that was described in the February Acorn. With the exception of the blade grasping now allowed under that rule, trapping the blade is still prohibited.
With all of the new changes coming to rapier, both Cut and Thrust, youth rapier and even the new blade grasping rules, Im sure there are a lot of questions about rules and situations and scenarios. While you are working through these forms, I hope you will remember that when two fighters face each other with concern for each others safety and an intent to fight with honor, it will be a rare thing indeed for a major problem to occur. Also, you can always pass your questions to either your local marshal, or the Kingdom Rapier Marshallate.
I hope that this letter finds you and yours in good health and good spirits,
Kynnyth PykeDeputy Earl Marshall for Rapier Combat
