'07 Rule Changes
Greetings Atlantian rapier fighters!
I hope that your new year is going well. The fighting season is upon us, and the calendar will be full with all sorts of fun activities, including melees. Marshals, please make sure that every fighter at your practice has a clear expectation of what might happen to them in a melee - this includes getting engagement, DFB, being struck by crossbow bolts & arrows, fighting in a line (which means being struck by an opponent who you aren't necessarily looking at), and all sorts of other stimuli that occur during a melee. And I don't mean just sitting down and talking it over - live demonstrations and examples are better. Run some melees at your local practice! This is a requirement. Fighters, please be sure you understand these things. If you don't, please ask your local marshal or senior rapier fighter to talk it over and demonstrate it with you. Be especially sure to do these things if you're about to go to a melee event. This, also, is a requirement.
We are also writing in a change in our rules - please find the change listed below.
What this functionally means is that you can briefly immobilize a heavy rapier blade for the purposes of getting the shot you want. You may not immobilize a foil or epee. Please see Society rules for a further definition.
I hope to see all of you at Ymir, fighting hard, fighting smart, and fighting well.
