New Rules

2005-09-21
Good evening,
[..]

Again, calm down. Take a deep breath, and step away from the keyboard. There is no one I am excluding from the previous statement, with the exception of Lord Alexander Blud, who showed admirable restraint and a positive, helpful attitude. Others of you know better than to stir this pot.

There has been so much back-and-forthing that I simply can not answer all of it. So this is the short form state of things, and there will be no other change no matter what kind of uproar there is on this, or any other list.

- There were several contradictory directives that this office was left with. In the end, Lord Vyvyan simply ran out of time in transferring the office and had to drop it in my lap. Going to war for our country is a little more important. Sorting through it as best I could, I directed the publication of a set of very slightly modified rules.

- Those changes, however, did not line up with what changes were submitted to the Kingdom as published in law.atlantia.sca.org Section 3.5.5. That version is what we are officially bound by, and it is what we will fight under, if you choose to fight. Therefore, I directed Melchior to take down the rules published on rapier.atlantia.sca.org and simply redirect it to the relevant section of Altantian policy. Those rules are listed as Society rules, with two modifications - no tip cuts or push cuts, and no fiberglass blades. Foils are fine. Your calibration is fine. Rattan daggers are fine.

- We do have further changes planned, but nothing drastic, and nothing all at once. The first matter we will deal with is draw cuts. And I point-blank refuse to make a ruling on this until we get it on the field, and out from behind keyboards.

-Any other rules changes, unless it is an immediate pressing safety matter, will be dealt with later.

There are several of you I am disappointed in for making a bad situation worse. You are all welcome and invited to ask questions, make suggestions, and contribute in a positive way to the marshallate. However, if you make the choice to vent your frustrations in a way that is counter-productive, your ideas and suggestions will not carry as much weight.

Therefore, I urge you to hold off on pressing that send button and really re-read what you have written. Discuss it calmly and in a constructive fashion with Baron Llwyd, Herr Melchior, or myself. So far, this imbroglio has been restricted to this email and idle chatter at fighter practices. Don't let it get on the field.
