MiTs, assisting the MiC

2004-07-01

Howdy!

Ok, there seems to be a mild misconception among rapier marshals-in-training
when it states in our policy that you must assist the rapier marshal in charge
at least once during your apprenticeship. The basis of this policy is so that
MIT's become acquainted with the supervisory role that a marshal-in-charge has,
and that MIT's become familiar with the process of planning, staffing, running,
and reporting on combat at an event. However, this does not mean that there can
only be one MIT directly assisting a Marshal in Charge. That Marshal-in-Charge
can have several MITs working with them; however many the Marshal-in-charge can
reasonably handle, so long as the MITs are educated in what's going on and gain
valuable knowledge, training & experience from it.

As my own example, at the Atlantian 5-man Tourney at Pennsic (full details,
flyer, and shameless advertising coming soon), I will certainly be happy to have
more than one MIT assisting me so that they may gain knowledge of running a
tournament. In addition, those assisting me will probably get assigned a duty or
task to accomplish (in other words, if you're an MIT with me, you'll be
working!)

I urge all my fellow rapier marshals to do as much as they can to train and
prepare MITs, including taking on several MITs to directly assist them! These
will be the good gentles who will be taking over for us so we can enjoy our
combat in our twilight years when we are too old & crotchety to make rulings any
more.

If you have any questions about this or any other policy, please feel free to
ask! I stand ready to serve in any lawful thing.
